A Mac for the way you work
Start with where you work and what you do. Then compare the exact chip, memory, storage, display and connections of the configurations on your shortlist.
Portable or at your desk?
A notebook gives you a screen and keyboard in a portable device. The MacBook Neo, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro groups provide starting points for that shortlist. For a regular desk setup, compare iMac, Mac mini and Mac Studio and check which display and input accessories are included with the exact product.
Choose for your applications
Write down your main tasks: browsing and documents, coding, music, photography, design, video or another workflow. Check the applications' requirements and the size of the files you handle. Compare configuration details rather than relying only on a product family's name or a headline chip label.
Memory, storage and connections
Review the supplied memory and storage for each configuration. Allow room for the files and applications you intend to keep on the device. List the displays, storage devices and other peripherals you use and check the required ports, adapters and display support against the exact model specifications.
Make a useful shortlist
Compare two or three specific configurations with the same checklist: screen size, chip, memory, storage, connections, included accessories and final retail total. Images and legacy campaign copy may refer to another generation, so the live product page must identify the exact configuration. The preview's supplier stock does not confirm availability.
Before you switch
Plan backups, data transfer and access to your important accounts. Check any specialist software, licences or organisation requirements before purchase. Keep a copy of the setup checklist with your shortlist so that the device and its supporting accessories can be assessed together.
